ジェンダー主流化の好事例である「タンザニアキリマンジャロ農業技術者訓練センター計画フェーズ2」を対象に、同プロジェクトにおけるジェンダー主流化のための取り組みを紹介します。 具体例として、女性の参加を促すために研修参加者の男女比を半々に固定し、積極的な女性の参加を求めたこと、農業技術のほかに、改良かまどや家計管理など、女性が関心を持ちやすい研修コースを設けたことなどのポイントがわかりやすく解説されており、他のプロジェクトにおいてジェンダー配慮の視点を取り入れる際の参考として活用することが可能です。

This material introduces our efforts in the "Kilimanjaro Agricultural Training Centre Phase II Project Fields" as a good example of tackling the problem of streaming gender. Specifically, we produce exactly the same number of male and female joining workshops in order to promote women's participation. We also set up courses that are of particular interest to women, such as improved cooking stoves and home economics other than the agricultural technology course. This material can be used as a reference to propagate the idea of gender equality in other projects.

SHEPアプローチ  ~動機づけ理論に基づく「市場志向型農業振興」~     SHEP Approach "Promotion of Farming as a Business" Based on Motivation Theory



This material explains JICA's SHEP Approach in the field of Agricultural and Rural Development. It looks at SHEP concept and its four essintial steps to be realize a Market-oriented Agriculture.
The material was created to publicize and disseminate the SHEP Approach which was born in Kenya in 2006. In recent years, it has already been implemented in 23 countries in Africa. Suggested uses for this material include other development agensies,universities, and training sessions in Japan and abroad.

Extension of Organic Agriculture Techniques for Assistance to Small Scale Farmers' Groups


本コンテンツでは、伝統的農業の再評価、内部資源循環、生産者と消費者の関係構築、「考える農民」の育成などに焦点をあて、小規模農民と共有できる教訓が取りまとめられています。 小規模農民が圧倒的な多数を占める途上国において、地域資源を有効利用する有機農業のニーズは高く、多くの地域で普及・試行が実践されています。しかしながら、資機材などの投入が限られた小規模農民を対象とした有機農業技術の開発は十分とは言えず、また脆弱な農業普及制度・体制の下、有機農業に取り組む小規模農民の自立的な発展を促す支援が求められています。本コンテンツが途上国の支援に携わる方々に活用され、小規模貧困農民支援の一助になれば幸いです。

In the developing countries, where small scale farmers occupy an overwhelming majority, the needs of organic farming are high and its trials are practiced in various regions, because of its effective practical use to local resources. However, it may be said that development of the organic farming technology is poor for the small scale farmers, who do not have enough mechanics or materials. So it is demanded to support their sustainable development in the viewpoint of organic farming system. This Contents focus on the relations construction of a relationship between producers and consumers, upbringing of "thinking farmers", and the lesson can be shared with small scale farmers are compiled.



Higashimatsushima City's Reconstruction Efforts from the Great East Japan Earthquake



Higashimatsushima(HM) City suffered 1,110 earthquake-related deaths and 97 percent of all homes in the city were damaged in March 2011. HM City formulated Guidelines for Recovery and Reconstruction a mere month, in April 2011 after the earthquake and formulated Reconstruction plan in December. This material overviews "Citizen collaborative community building" initiative and city government's efforts for quick recovery.

This video explains the significance and importance of disaster statistics in planning and implementation of effective disaster risk reduction measures and the Sendai Framework Monitoring based on the examples of Japan and the world.



Japan's Disaster Experiences Reflected in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction



The Sendai Framework for DRR - a global disaster risk reduction trend formulated in 2015 - includes a lot of Japan's suggestions. Importance of DRR investment, strenghening the capacity of DRR organizations, Build Back Better are the representative ones. The video shows why Japan advocated such things through the explanation of Japan's typical disasters and lessons learnt from those.

JICA conducts the training program "Museums and Community Development" in collaboration with National Museum of Ethnology since 1994, which covers comprehensive museum management know-hows and techniques, and has built and expnaded worldwide professional museum network. In this regard, this is the only training of its kind in the world. This material explains the contents and achievements of the training program.

"School for All" opens the way to the future



This material explains the "School for All" project. It looks at three basic aspects: the why ("objective"), what ("focus") and how ("approach") of JICA's cooperation with partner countries. And it consists of two contents, one is public information, the other is training materials for who are interested or start the school for all project.

This material describes the concept and overview of KAIZEN, the seven steps of KAIZEN and KAIZEN activities implemented at Iizuka Hospital in Japan and in public hospitals in Tanzania.



JICA Tsukuba Agricultural Technology package - How to Make and Use a Manual Winnower -




This material is made for use by JICA ex-training participants, JOCV and SV volunteers, and JICA experts, when they give instruction to farmers in developing countries. The structure are very easy to follow; it's possible to learn "How to Make and Use a Manual Winnower" just by watching and following the contents. Some techniques, which cannot easily be taught only through manuals, can be easily understood by various people through this audio-visual materials. The winnower is a tool used to separate the chaff, straw, and immature grain from rice or beans after harvest. In Japan, winnowers came to be used to separate rice in the latter half of of the 17th century in the Edo Period and made a great difference in the amount of labor required to separate post-harvest rice.

People in developing countries are living in the presence of HIV/AIDS. HIV/AIDS impinges on the lives of more people in developing countries than we can imagine. How would you feel if someone close to you or at work had contracted HIV? What can you do about it?
This instructional material was created for the purpose of enabling people who are involved in international cooperation to gain an accurate understanding of HIV/AIDS, and to not only protect themselves, but to carry out activities from the perspective of considering HIV/AIDS. A Good Practice of Gender Mainstreaming for Project Management ~Girls’ Education in Yemen~

Promoting girls' education in countries where the gender gap is especially extreme in primary education attendance. What approaches are possible, and what needs to be taken into consideration? This material uses the example of the “Broadening Regional Initiative for Developing Girls’ Education (BRIDGE) Program in Taiz”in Yemen to introduce gender mainstreaming in the field of education. The project was managed to ascertain the situation in each school by Taiz Education office’s Director for Girls Education and took a number of activities in consideration of Yemen traditions and customs, such as using religious messages, carrying out meeting with fathers and with mothers, enhancing residents’ understanding of girls’ education through the empowerment of mothers and improving the school environment by constructing separate boys ‘and girls ‘toilets. The project helped improve the school attendance of both boys and girls, as well as changing attitudes of residents in the area. This material carefully sets out the lessons to be taken away from this project, and how they can be adapted.

この教材は、日本発の農村開発アプローチとして、日本の戦後の生活改善運動を概観し、日本の援助関係者が推進する援助業務の参考とすることを目的に制作しました。現在、各プロジェクトの中で生活改善のコンポーネントとして取り入れいる生活改善活動アプローチが単なる導入活動でしかない「改良かまど」が、社会的コンテクストを考慮しないまま採りいれられたり、収入向上が優先される目標であるとの理解から、生活改善と称して一挙に食品加工や手工芸を導入する向きがあります。 生活改善アプローチを正しく理解していただくために、日本の生活改善運動についての5つのキーワード(農村開発、貧困削減、生産と生活の両建ての働きかけ、参加型開発、行政と住民のシナジー)に基づき、生活改善活動へのアプローチ事例を通じて、理解を深められるよう構成しました。

This material was made for Japanese organizations that help developing countries as a reference for their assistance work. Currently, in each livelihood improvement project, there is a tendency to introduce improved kamados, as just an input activity, without considering the social context, and handicraft or food processing are introduced as a livelihood improvement project just because income improvement is the main objective. Therefore, this material is designed to deepen the understanding through example cases based on 5 key ideas: farm village development, poverty reduction, production activities compatible with the target group's lifestyle, participatory development, and synergetic effects between administrations and residents.
